LOST TAPES EDITION #1

AKA BIT OF BALTIMORE WEIRD

Three things before we get to the tunes:

  1. Holy Crap, its going to take a little while to catch up to now with our sessions. A couple per week will take a couple or three months or so. And this installment is actually part two of the last session featuring Mauskovic Dance Band and Ana Roxanne.

  2. I am not calling my buddy “b” I am too old to know how to use that term properly in conversation. It’s a typo. Just felt I needed to make that clear.

  3. These are only lost tapes because its a bit of pain in the butt to search browser history and compare it with SMS history. I realized right before posting the last installment that this was the same night. And the editor was giving me a hassle. Rest assured THESE TAPES ARE NOT REALLY LOST. and they are really tapes, at least one of them is can be purchased on cassette. So, seeing as there is really only one tape and it’s not lost, I would have gone back and changed the title, had I not just addressed this issue.

  4. This is also the first instance of “Hey, I saw something that caught my eye on the front page of Bandcamp as I was getting here. Wanna try give it a whirl?” Our group (spoiler alert - the pair of us will become a group, so stayed tuned) will find that to be a great place to find some new listening gems.

So, after listening to a couple great albums in their entirety I suggested these couple tracks that had caught my eye on this page

PANGELICA

So, I sent him the info on what caught my eye. I Picked it from the the blurb I couldnt pass up something that was described as being “spawned from a distant point in the future.”

It was getting a bit late, so we didn’t delve any deeper into Pangelica beyond Crimson (track one) that night. I did go back for the rest of it the next day. Still not sure sure whether to buy the cassette or the digital. I like objects, but I don’t have anything that makes those objects play music.

:3LON

I also wanted to squeeze another, different artist that was on the featured in that Bandcamp feature before we signed off for the night.

When I see this teaser:

3LON’s mission is to create “electronic soundscapes that examine the state of humanity from a futuristic lens, with nods to classic anime and fantasy RPG.”

My response can be nothing other than:

According to :3LON (pronounced ELON) “the lyrics were written from the perspective of a character in a medieval fantasy realm that has awakened to find that the person they care for has left to fight for their kingdom.”

We both really dug this one as well.

I just purchased the track tonight. At least on Bandcamp, :3LON has only digital tracks for sale. Purchasing non-physical media is pretty new for me. Not my fave, but this is an artist worth supporting.

And, if you enjoyed the track as much as I did, maybe getting to know a little bit more about.

Someone else’s blogpost is super handy because it has a link to his EP Ronin on Soundcloud. I just listened to it and is smooth and jagged and great.

He even got some coverage in one of them there fancy magazines, Village Voice

Holy crap, that was a long post post for two songs. Best I leave a couple more related things here at the end to explore. First, a couple of other selections from Devine, the label that brought us Pangelica. Something punchy and something embracing. If you dig it, you can absolutely find more Devine tracks here

And, finally a couple selections from other RPG/ Fantasy inspired musicians. These are a bit more metal clad. Some Euro redneck glory and some French space wizard prog.
